Rosemary

Strong scalp, strong hair. The Nurme rosemary collection is a 4-step scalp care routine whose result is denser and stronger hair. The collection’s hit product Rosemary shampoo for hair growth has sold over 100,000 units over the years and received a bronze recognition in the Free From Skincare Awards in 2021.
12-product collection includes two shampoos, a hair conditioner, scalp oil and tonic, two body care products, an essential oil and a gift box. Each formula has been developed and produced in our own production facility in Tapa, Lääne-Virumaa.
Why start with the scalp, not the hair?
Hair grows from the scalp. Density, growth rate, itching, flaking — all of this comes from what happens beneath the skin and on the skin surface. Healthy scalp, healthy, well-kept hair; fragile scalp, fragile hair.
The Nurme rosemary collection is built on this basic principle. We care for the place where hair actually comes from. The result is better hair growth, less flaking, a more stable scalp microbiome, and hair that stays clean longer after washing.

What does science say about rosemary’s effect?
Rosemary essential oil supports scalp health through two main mechanisms. First, it improves microcapillary blood circulation, which brings more oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicle. Second, it inhibits 5α-reductase, the enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT and is behind hormonal hair loss.
The strongest evidence is the 2015 randomized study by Panahi et al. in SKINmed:

100 patients with androgenetic alopecia
6-month randomized controlled trial
Two groups: rosemary oil vs 2% minoxidil (pharmacy standard treatment)
Result: significant increase in hair count in both groups over 6 months, no statistical difference detected
Side effect: less scalp itching in the rosemary group than in the minoxidil group

If you are looking for a shampoo whose main active ingredient has been clinically studied, choose Rosemary shampoo for hair growth (98.7% natural) and add rosemary scalp oil to your routine 1–2 times a week.

How does tea tree oil work against dandruff?
The scalp is a living ecosystem. On one square centimeter, an average of about one billion microbes live. When this community is balanced, there is no itching or flaking. When yeast of the Malassezia genus takes over, dandruff develops.
Tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) is one of the most effective plant-based antifungals. The 2002 randomized study by Satchell et al. in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology showed:

126 patients with mild to moderate dandruff
4 weeks of daily use
5% tea tree oil shampoo vs placebo
Result: 41% improvement in the tea tree oil group vs 11% in placebo (P < 0.001)
The effect comes mainly from the component terpinen-4-ol

It is this combination of rosemary and tea tree oil that you will find in Nurme’s anti-dandruff rosemary shampoo (97.56% natural). In addition, the shampoo contains lavender oil, allantoin, provitamin B5, hydrolyzed wheat protein and menthol.

4-step rosemary scalp routine
The collection has been developed as a routine, not as a collection of individual products. Each step complements the previous one. You can feel the effect already with one step, but the maximum result comes from the full routine within 3–6 months.
Step 1: ACTIVATE Rosemary scalp oil (50 ml, 100% natural). With castor oil, sesame oil, jojoba and peppermint oil. Use: 1–2 times a week before washing, leave on for 30–60 minutes.
Step 2: CLEANSE Choose according to your needs:

Thinning hair, slow growth: Rosemary shampoo for hair growth (250 ml, 98.7% natural). With provitamin B5 and hydrolyzed wheat protein.
Dandruff, itching, irritated scalp: Anti-dandruff rosemary shampoo (250 ml, 97.56% natural). With tea tree oil and lavender oil.

Step 3: CONDITION Rosemary hair conditioner (250 ml, 99.62% natural). With argan oil, sunflower oil and provitamin B5. Use: only on hair lengths, not on the scalp.
Step 4: BOOST Rosemary scalp tonic (100 ml, 96.27% natural). With a hyaluronic acid derivative and red kapok flower extract that supports the balance of the scalp microbiome. Use: daily on a clean scalp, no rinsing needed.

Frequently asked questions
Does rosemary shampoo help with hair growth?
Yes, clinical studies confirm the effect of rosemary essential oil on hair growth. In the 2015 study by Panahi et al. on 100 patients, rosemary oil showed a result after 6 months that did not differ statistically from 2% minoxidil. For maximum effect, use the shampoo daily for at least 4–6 months.

How long does it take to see results?
The first changes are usually felt within 3–4 weeks: the scalp feels better and flaking decreases. Hair loss starts to decrease after 4–8 weeks. A visible change in hair density comes with 3–6 months of consistent use. The Panahi 2015 study measured results after 6 months.

Is rosemary essential oil suitable for children?
Concentrated rosemary essential oil is not recommended for children under 6. In the shampoo and conditioner, the amount of essential oil is calibrated according to cosmetic safety standards, and these products are suitable from school age. For babies and infants, Nurme has a separate fragrance-free baby series.

What is the difference between rosemary scalp oil and tonic?
Scalp oil is more concentrated (100% natural) and is used 1–2 times a week before washing (leave on for 30–60 minutes). The tonic is lighter (96.27% natural) and is suitable for daily spraying on a clean scalp; it does not need rinsing. Both can be used together: oil before washing, tonic after washing.

Is rosemary suitable for dyed hair?
Yes. The Nurme rosemary collection does not contain SLS/SLES sulfates, which means it does not bleach hair color as quickly as conventional shampoos. The pH is calibrated to a hair-friendly range (4.5–5.5).

Does rosemary shampoo help against dandruff?
Classic rosemary shampoo may help with mild dandruff. For persistent or chronic dandruff, we recommend the anti-dandruff rosemary shampoo, which also contains tea tree oil and lavender oil. Tea tree oil is an antifungal compound whose effect on dandruff was proven in the Satchell 2002 study (41% improvement vs 11% in placebo).

How should the rosemary collection be used most effectively?
For maximum effect, follow the 4-step routine:

ACTIVATE: scalp oil 1–2 times a week before washing, leave on for 30–60 minutes
CLEANSE: shampoo twice. The first cleans, the second works (leave on the scalp for 2–3 minutes)
CONDITION: conditioner only on hair lengths, not on the scalp
BOOST: scalp tonic on a clean scalp after washing

Are the products compliant with EU cosmetics regulations?
Yes. All Nurme products comply with EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009 and the Cosmetics Claims Regulation 655/2013. Each product has undergone a Cosmetic Product Safety Report (CPSR) before being brought to market. No animal testing is carried out — the EU banned it in the cosmetics industry from 2013.

How many rosemary products are in the Nurme collection?
The Nurme rosemary collection includes 9 products: 2 shampoos, a hair conditioner, scalp oil, scalp tonic, 2 body care products, essential oil and a gift box. The collection’s five core products have been developed as a 4-step scalp care routine (ACTIVATE → CLEANSE → CONDITION → BOOST).
