Essential oils

Essential oils are the concentrated soul of a plant — the scent and character of petals, leaves, needles, roots and resins gathered into a single fragrant drop. For as long as people have grown herbs and gardens, these oils have been used to lift the mood, soften the breath of a room and care for skin and hair the natural way. At Nurme we love them for their honesty: what nature made, kept pure. Our essential oils are unblended and free from synthetic fragrance, so the aroma you breathe in is exactly the plant it came from — nothing added, nothing pretending to be nature.

Choosing a pure essential oil

A true essential oil carries only one thing: the plant it is named after. That is why the most important habit is reading rather than smelling. Look for the botanical name, the part of the plant used and a scent that feels alive rather than flat or sugary. A single oil such as lavender, peppermint or eucalyptus is a wonderful place to begin, because you learn its character before you start blending. If you are drawn to a certain mood — calm, focus, freshness — let that guide your first choice, and build slowly from there.

For atmosphere and everyday calm

The simplest way to enjoy essential oils is in the air. A few drops in a diffuser or a bowl of warm water can turn an ordinary evening into a small ritual — grounding after a long day, or bright and clearing in the morning. If you like the idea of scent shaping how you feel, our aromatherapy collection and the wider well-being range are made for exactly these quiet, restorative moments at home.

For skin, hair and the body

Essential oils are powerful, so on the skin they are always diluted. Blend a drop or two into a neutral carrier from our base oils before massaging into the body, or add character to a ready-made facial oil. A cooling touch of peppermint suits a scalp treatment alongside our hair oils and tonics, while warmer, softer notes fold beautifully into care for the rest of the body. A little goes a long way — this is scent to be used mindfully, not poured.

Building your collection

Most people begin with one or two favourites and let the shelf grow with the seasons: something fresh for spring cleaning, something calming for winter. Pure essential oils last well and reward a slow, curious approach.

Take your time browsing, follow your nose, and find the natural scents that feel most like you.
